Work begins on Duqm airport project

Muscat – Construction work on the passenger terminal for Duqm airport commenced on Sunday and will be completed as per schedule, an official of Larsen & Toubro (Oman) that is executing the project told the Observer.
He said the project is expected to be ready in 24 months from the commencement of the work. L&T is also executing the fourth package of the Batinah Expressway Project and the Bidbid-Sur dual carriageway.
The company’s scope of work in Duqm, apart from the passenger terminal building, will include a 37-m-high air traffic control tower and an air cargo terminal equipped to handle 25,000 tonnes of cargo per annum. The deal, representing package three, is valued at RO36.27mn ($94mn).
Meanwhile, Dr Rasheed al Safi Khamis Al Huraibi, chairman of the Tender Board, said all projects are continuing as per the plan and the Board is coordinating with agencies to ensure that they are as per the government rules and instructions.
Meanwhile, an official of Iran’s largest cement factory, Lamerd, said that the company has been doing business in Oman for years and is still exploring new opportunities here.
