Health Ministry holds three national surveys
MUSCAT: The Ministry of Health (MOH), represented by the Research and Studies Centre at the Directorate General of Planning and Studies, conducted three national health surveys in all the Governorates. The three surveys were, National Survey for Non-Communicable, Global Adults Tobacco Survey and National Nutrition Survey.
These surveys are being carried to provide a base line data in some fields to meet the needs of planning and decision-making processes for several health programmes in the Ministry, as well as in the related institutions in the Sultanate. These needs are based on recommendations of international agencies.
The Ministry has made great efforts to overcome all the difficulties in carrying out these national surveys. A central work group was formed, according to a ministerial decision, to follow-up and supervise all phases of implementation in order to obtain reliable and high quality data for the planners and decision makers so as to make decisions based on reliable evidence.
The surveys included two phases of field work — the first phase is related to updating the enumeration areas, and the second contains individual interviews, physical measurements and medical examinations.
